Mark Your Calendar for these 2025 September Events in the High Country

The month of September is full of fun and exciting events in the High Country, from Boone and Blowing Rock to Banner Elk. Whether you’re searching for family-friendly events, food and drink events, live music or free festivals, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Here are our top events happening in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk.
Sept. 1-30: Hawkwatch
All throughout September, guests visiting Grandfather Mountain are invited to join the mountain’s naturalists as they count and celebrate “Hawkwatch“, the annual spectacle of fall raptor migration. Participants can observe the migration daily at Linville Peak, across the Mile High Swinging Bridge, weather permitting.
Sept. 6: Art in the Park
Art in the Park was created in 1962 by a handful of area artists and craftspeople to showcase local talent. Today, it’s host to dozens of artisans at each show, where some of the best local and regional artists and craftspeople showcase their handcrafted jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, photography, painting, and more. Sept. 10-13: Antlers and Acorns: The Boone Songwriters Festival
Head to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and Boone for the fourth annual Antlers & Acorns Songwriters Festival. Downtown Boone’s streets will be filled with fans of great songwriting looking for the chance to sit and listen to the ones who pen the songs they love. Enjoy good food, great drinks, and the songs that stay with you while surrounded by the beauty of Western North Carolina.
Sept. 19-Oct-Nov. 1: Ghost Train
The spooktacular season of Tweetsie’s Ghost Train® Halloween Celebration, a popular fall family tradition, begins Friday, September 19, and continues every Friday and Saturday night through November 1. Daytime guests can still enjoy all of Tweetsie’s Wild West adventures, rides and attractions. . . but when the sun goes down, the park gets a full makeover complete with costumed characters, decorations, music and Halloween-themed attractions.
