Compiled by Chris Murphy
The North Carolina High Country is a beautiful region of the state that is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains, charming towns, and a thriving culinary scene. Chefs in Boone Restaurants, Banner Elk Restaurants and Blowing Rock Restaurants understand that vacation is the one time of year that you can get away without having a care in the world. Because of this, they want to make food the last thing you worry about but the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Boone, Banner Elk, West Jefferson, or Blowing Rock. Whether you’re looking for a fine-dining experience or a casual meal, you’ll find something to your taste in the High Country.
Here are a few of our favorite restaurants in the area:
- Stonewalls Restaurant serves prime rib, seafood, steaks, fine wines and much more. Although they are located in Banner Elk, they serve locals who come from Blowing Rock, Boone, Newland, and Linville, North Carolina. Stonewalls Restaurant is located in downtown Banner Elk located in the heart of The High Country in western North Carolina. (Photo Above)
- Dan’l Boone Inn in Boone is a charming restaurant that serves up classic family style American fare in a casual atmosphere. Dan’l Boone Inn is one of the oldest Boone restaurants and has been voted one of best restaurants in North Carolina.
- The Gamekeeper Restaurant in Blowing Rock is an adventure in fine dining. Located between Boone and Blowing Rock, The Gamekeeper is well known for interesting and delicious interpretations of Southern classics. If you enjoy emu, bison, venison, elk, boar, duck or mountain trout, this is the restaurant for you.

In addition to these great restaurants, the High Country also has a number of breweries, distilleries and wineries that are worth checking out. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Banner Elk Winery in Banner Elk often called the “Jewel of the High Country”, is a popular spot for wine enthusiasts. If your dream vacation is linked to adventure or wine tastings our Banner Elk Villa is the perfect place for you.
- Booneshine Brewing Company in Boone is another great option for craft beer lovers. The brewery has a taproom with a large selection of beers, wines, ciders, as well as a full service restaurant that features elevated pub fare.
