The month of December is full of fun and exciting events in the High Country, from Boone and Blowing Rock to Banner Elk. Whether you’re searching for family-friendly events, food and drink events, live music or free festivals, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Here are our top events happening in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk during December.
Dec. 5-7: A Small Town Christmas
A Small Town Christmas in Banner Elk begins Friday evening with the lighting of the town tree and a holiday variety show. Festivities include: a 5K run, Breakfast with Santa, candy cane hunt, storytelling, ornament making, cookie decorating, train rides through luminaries in the park, visits with Santa and a synchronized light show. Shopping is available, too, and all activities are within easy walking distance in this one-stoplight resort town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visit a tree farm where you can choose & cut tree.
Until December 30: A Tweetsie Christmas
Celebrate the holiday season at Tweetsie Railroad. The Wild West theme park transforms into a winter wonderland for Tweetsie Christmas. Take an evening train rides alongside the thousands of dazzling lights, meet Santa in his gingerbread house, play in larger-than-life snow globe, enjoy live Christmas show and more.
