Mark Your Calendar for these February Events in the High Country

The month of February is full of fun and exciting events in the High Country, from Boone and Blowing Rock to Banner Elk. Whether you’re searching for family-friendly events, food and drink events, live music or free festivals, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Be sure to pick up a High Country Visitors Guide to find even more events throughout the year.

Feb 2: Yoga on the Mountain
Every Sunday, enjoy a yoga class taught by some of this region’s favorite teachers from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Rain or shine, come together in the community and enjoy a serene and joyful morning with us.

We encourage you to explore our gorgeous campus or one of our beautiful nature trails after the event. You are also invited to stay for a delicious vegetarian buffet lunch for $15. Lunch is served from 12-1:30 PM- if you would like to stay for lunch we encourage participants to arrive early in order to purchase lunch before Yoga class.

This event is free (donations are accepted); RSVP at least 24 hours in advance; see our website.

Feb. 2-3: Old Time Fiddlers Convention
The Annual Old-Time Fiddler’s Convention takes place at Appalachian State University. Listen to skilled performers as they take the stage and compete, enjoy square dancing, attend workshops & presentations, and browse through wares at the handmade market.

Feb 6: Old-Time Jam at the Jones House
Every Thursday evening from 7-10 PM, join local and visiting musicians at the Jones House for an old-time jam session. Bring your banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin – or whatever old-time acoustic instrument you have – and spend a few hours playing along with fellow musicians of all skill levels and backgrounds. On warm evenings, circle up on the Jones House lawn and porch; on cooler evenings, move the things indoors to the parlor and galleries. Guests and visitors are welcome to observe and enjoy the music but are asked to be respectful of the musicians. After catching up and choosing a key the music will begin, with the last call for tunes coming around 9:45.

Jams are not held on holidays and may be canceled on days of inclement weather. Call the Jones House with any questions.

Feb. 7: First Friday Art Crawl
Join us for First Friday Art Crawl each month in Downtown Boone, February through December. Check out Fizzy First Friday at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts on King Street, as well as the Mazie Jones Gallery in the Jones House Cultural Center. Art exhibits and wine tastings are hosted in various downtown shops and restaurants.

Feb. 25: BooneDocs Film Festival
Join us for an encore screening of award-winning films from the inaugural BooneDocs Film Festival. The Annual BooneDocs Film Fest presents a series of short form documentary films that share and celebrate life in Appalachia. This program will include the full slate of documentaries, filmmaker Q&A, and on-stage award presentations for “Judges’ Choice” and “People’s Choice” at the conclusion.
