Visit The Jones House Community Center in Boone

When you visit Boone, take some time to immerse yourself in the area’s culture and history by visiting The Jones House.

The Jones House History

The Jones House was the family home of Dr. John Walter Jones, one of the first physicians in the area. Built in 1908, the home also served as Jones’ office. Jones’ daughter, Mazie, inherited the home and later sold it to the Town of Boone in 1983 to be used as a cultural and community center.

About The Jones House

Located in downtown Boone, The Jones House is Boone’s local cultural and community center. Managed by the Town of Boone’s Cultural Resources Department, The Jones House is one of Boone’s historic facilities.

The home features a parlor, with many of the original furnishings owned by the Jones family; a downstairs gallery now known as the Mazie Jones Gallery; and the original kitchen.

The Jones House Gallery

The Mazie Jones Gallery features monthly rotating galleries with works made by local artists and artistic groups.

Every first Friday of the month, The Jones House hosts a reception honoring the artist of the month with food and refreshments. The First Friday Art Crawl is a great time to check out the new monthly gallery exhibit.

Events at The Jones House

The Jones House hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year, including a St. Patrick’s Day parade, Doc Watson Day in June, a Fourth of July parade and celebration, Boone Boo! on Halloween, a Christmas tree lighting and parade and much more.

Doc Watson Day celebrates local and seven-time Grammy Award winner Doc Watson. The Jones House honors Watson with a free concert dedicated in his memory.
