March 11: Town of Blowing Rock’s Birthday

Celebrate the Town of Blowing Rock’s 131st birthday on Wednesday, March 11. Enjoy cake and snacks at the Town of Blowing Rock Club House. You won’t want to miss the presentation of the newest plaques in a series of Blowing Rock Historical Markers.

March 14: St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Head to Boone for a St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. Former NASCAR stock car driver, Kyle Petty, will be the Grand Marshal for the parade. The parade will begin at Poplar Grove Extension and move east on King Street, ending at Hardin Street.

The Jones House will have a free, family-friendly kids’ zone on the lawn, featuring bounce houses, balloon animals, magic shows, face painting, games and more.

March 15: Easter Egg Hunt

Join Sugar Bear and Sweetie Bear on the slopes of Sugar Mountain Resort for the Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Egg Hunt is for children 12 and under only. Children can search for prize-filled eggs, including a grand prize egg with a season pass hidden inside. Prizes will be awarded for most creative, imaginative and colorful costume.

March 19–21: Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour

Appalachian State hosts the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival, one of the North America’s largest screenings. The festival brings stories of remote journeys and ground-breaking adventures as told through the eyes of adventurers, authors, photographers and filmmakers. The screenings in Boone will take place at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, Thursday through Saturday, March 19–21. Screenings on Thursday and Friday evenings will feature special guests.

March 22–23: Meltdown Games

Appalachian Ski Mountain says farewell to winter with the annual Meltdown Games. On Saturday and Sunday, March 22–23, enjoy a weekend full of events at the ski resort. Register for events like the three-man sled contest, trash bag downhill race, costume contest and more.
