Here are our top five events happening in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk during December.

December 5–7: Festival of Trees in Blowing Rock

Head to Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock for the annual Festival of Trees. Now in its fifth year, this event will feature over 75 uniquely decorated trees and wreaths. View them or buy a fully decorated tree to take home. Funds raised will benefit the Western Youth Network.

December 14: Boone Christmas Parade

Celebrate the holiday season in Boone with the annual Boone Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. in downtown Boone. Along the way, guests can enjoy plenty of holiday treats and surprises. After the parade, head to Jones House to warm up with hot cider and cookies.

December 20–22: A Banner Elk Christmas

A Banner Elk Christmas will feature over 40 songs, including traditional, contemporary, secular and non-secular, as well as dancing and storytelling performed by Banner Elk’s Ensemble Stage.

December 26–31: Midnight Blast Holiday Nights

From Thursday, Dec. 26 until New Year’s Eve, enjoy a number of events at Appalachian Ski Mountain during the Midnight Blast Holiday Nights. The family-friendly ski resort will be continuously open from 9 a.m.–midnight. Welcome 2020 with the New Year’s Eve Extravaganza and fireworks on Monday, Dec. 31.

Until December 28: A Tweetsie Christmas

Celebrate the holiday season at Tweetsie Railroad. The Wild West theme park transforms into a winter wonderland for Tweetsie Christmas. Take an evening train rides alongside the thousands of dazzling lights, meet Santa in his gingerbread house, play in larger-than-life snow globe, enjoy live Christmas show and more.
