Here are our top five events happening in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk during December.

December 2-4: A Small Town Christmas

A Small Town Christmas in Banner Elk begins Friday evening with the lighting of the town tree and a holiday variety show. Festivities include: a 5K run, Breakfast with Santa, candy cane hunt, storytelling, ornament making, cookie decorating, train rides through luminaries in the park, visits with Santa and a synchronized light show. Shopping is available, too, and all activities are within easy walking distance in this one-stoplight resort town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visit a tree farm where you can choose & cut tree. 

December 4-18: A Banner Elk Christmas

A Banner Elk Christmas occurs every two weeks until Dec 18th. The show will feature over 40 songs, including traditional, contemporary, secular and non-secular, as well as dancing and storytelling performed by Banner Elk’s Ensemble Stage at the Historic Banner Elk School.

December 10: Boone Christmas Parade

Celebrate the holiday season in Boone with the annual Boone Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at 2pm in downtown Boone. Local businesses and organizations show off their holiday best with floats, marchers, costumes, and performances for this annual holiday tradition – with Santa Claus himself making an appearance at the finale!

December 19: Bluegrass & Old-Time Community Jam

Come and join us for the Bluegrass Old-Time Community Jam, a family friendly bluegrass and old-time jam session hosted by the Avery County JAM program at the Historic Banner Elk School. Bring your instrument or just come to listen and enjoy. all are welcome.

Until December 30: A Tweetsie Christmas

Celebrate the holiday season at Tweetsie Railroad. The Wild West theme park transforms into a winter wonderland for Tweetsie Christmas. Take an evening train rides alongside the thousands of dazzling lights, meet Santa in his gingerbread house, play in larger-than-life snow globe, enjoy live Christmas show and more.
