Hawksnest snow Tubing and Zipline Park Offers Year-Round Scenic Thrills for the Whole Family
By Chelsea Sherman
Just a few miles from Boone, in the heart of the High Country, sits a paradise of mountain adventure. All year long, Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zipline Park provides zipline tours of the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. In the winter, the park also offers family-friendly snow tubing.
Lenny Cottom and his father bought Hawksnest in 1991, back when it was a ski park. In 2010, they converted it into a tubing park, and later added the ziplines. Cottom’s commitment to creating a consistent, family-friendly experience for visitors all year long has led to three decades of success.
“Hawksnest is really a fun experience for all ages,” Cottom says. “In the winter, families with children as young as 3 can enjoy tubing. It’s a good alternative to going skiing, especially for families with younger children. The zipline provides year-round fun and adventure for the whole family.”
Zipline guests can choose from two full tours, the Hawk and the Eagle. On the Hawk Tour, participants zip at speeds up to 35 mph across more than 1.5 miles of cables. The Eagle Tour is even more exhilarating, offering speeds up to 50 mph and zipping across nearly three miles of cables. Both tours feature two “mega zips”—ziplines that are over 1,500 feet long.
“We’re a family-run business. We’re hands-on, talking to the customers every day. They know they can expect a really great experience from us. It’s what keeps them coming back year after year,” Cottom says.
