Buskers Fest 2025

North Carolina’s High Country Buskers Fest is returning to Boone, NC, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Compiled By Chris Murphy

The free, family-friendly event is a celebration of street performance, bringing a variety of art forms to the sidewalks and streets of downtown Boone. The festival, which was unfortunately canceled in 2024 due to Hurricane Helene, is a collaboration between the Watauga Arts Council and the Downtown Boone Development Association. It’s a great chance to see the region’s artistic talent up close and personal.

What is Busking? 🤹

Busking is the act of performing in public spaces for voluntary donations from passersby. It is a time-honored tradition that allows artists to share their work, gain exposure, and earn money directly from their audience. While it often brings to mind musicians with an open guitar case, busking can encompass a huge range of artistic expressions, from performance art and juggling to live painting and poetry.

What to Expect at the 2025 Festival 🎨

This year’s festival will transform downtown Boone’s King Street and some of the surrounding areas into a lively outdoor art gallery. You can expect to encounter a diverse group of buskers, showcasing their unique skills and creativity. The event is highly interactive, and attendees are encouraged to engage with the artists, watch them work, and offer tips to show their appreciation. In addition to the performers, the festival also aims to highlight the vibrant art scene in the High Country, with local artists, makers, and students from Appalachian State University participating. It’s a great opportunity to explore the local shops and galleries, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the creative energy that defines Boone.

Logistics and Parking 🚗

The festival is a rain-or-shine event. Downtown streets will remain open to traffic, and artists will be set up on sidewalks and in designated lots. For parking, attendees can utilize metered spots on King Street, long-term parking on Queen Street, or the App State Library Deck, which is free on weekends. The free AppalCART bus service is also a great option for getting around town without a car. It’s a wonderful day to support the arts and experience the unique culture of Boone.
