Music, good eats, fall foliage and festivals…. what’s not to love?! Fall is the perfect time to come experience High Country in all it’s glory. The sites are gorgeous, the festivities are endless and persons of any age can have a great time. Here are 8 early-fall events that are too good to pass up coming soon to High Country, NC.
Sept. 4, 2021: Underground Blacklight Mine Tours
Tune into your adventure side and explore the Bon Ami Mine a Emerald Village. This 45-minute guided nighttime blacklight tour will surprise your eyes with bright blues, vivid greens and ridiculous reds. Deposits of Hyalite Open and other gorgeous rare minerals are housed in the mine. Reserve your spot today.
Sept. 4-5, 2021: Mile High Kite Festival
This family friendly event will be held on the Beech Mountain Kite Field from 10 am to 4 pm. No kite? No problem! Free kites will be provided for children under 13 while supplies last. The event will feature kite flying, cool demonstrations, food vendors and musical performances.
Sept. 6, 2021: Sugar Mountain Grillin’ and Chillin’ Concert Series
Enjoy the last concert of the series! Sugar Mountain Caddy Shack Cafe offers dining on the deck and live music during this relaxing event. Panoramic views of the mountain make for an especially gorgeous photo-op.
Sept. 16-19, 2021: Merlefest 2021
Wilkes Community College is hosting the annual homecoming of musicians and music fans. Merlefest was founded in 1988 in remembrance of the son of late American music legend, Don Watson. This celebration of traditional plus music will feature a diverse mix of artists across 13 stages.
Sept. 17, 2021: Music in the Valle
Carolina Ramble Productions presents Alexa Rose and Will Easter at Valle Crucis Community Park at 6pm. There will be two food trucks on site for your convenience. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person or $10 per familt for the event.
Oct. 2, 2021: Art in the Park
This free event is open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm on Park Avenue, Downtown Blowing Rock. Originally created in 1962 by area artists and craftspeople, Art in the Park hosts 90 artisans that showcase their handcrafted jewelry, pottery, glass, photography, painting and so much more. You can quite literally purchase anything, ranging from postcards to furniture.
Oct. 9-10, 2021: Oktoberfest at Sugar Mountain
The Village of Sugar Mountain is hosting their annual Oktoberfest. This popular event is rain or shine and the best part… it’s free! You will be able to view the enchanting fall colors around the mountain ranges while enjoying delicious Bavarian cuisine and listening to the Harbour Towne Fest Band. A variety of vendors and artisans will also be present.
