July 4: Boone 4th of July Parade

The Fourth of July is celebrated with zeal all across North Carolina’s High Country. In Boone, Independence Day is ushered in with a patriotic 4th of July Parade and Celebration. Begin the day by watching the parade floats go by on King Street. Then, head to The Jones House for free snacks and refreshments on the lawn.

July 11–14: Grandfather Mountain Highland Games

One of the region’s most popular events, the annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are a celebration of Scottish Highland games on Grandfather Mountain. These astounding athletes participate in traditional highland games, as part of a colorful celebration of Scottish culture. Hear bagpipes play during traditional Celtic music and watch as dancers perform.

July 19–21: Fine Art & Master Crafts Festival

The Fine Art & Master Crafts Festival in Banner Elk is a juried festival that showcases handcrafted items from over 90 vendors. Photography, paintings, jewelry, sculpture and pottery are just some of the mediums offered during this festival.

July 23–28: Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show

The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is among the oldest continually operating horse shows in the country. Visit the L.M. Tate Horse Show Grounds for this competition. Events include a Saddlebred division and hunter/jumper division.

July 26–27: Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention

Celebrating 50 years, don’t miss the annual Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention. This convention is a celebration that showcases the musical talent and heritage of North Carolina’s High Country. Enjoy some of the region’s best bluegrass musicians, along with arts and crafts.
