About the Mile High Swinging Bridge

The Mile High Swinging Bridge is a landmark within Grandfather Mountain. The bridge was originally built in 1952 then rebuilt in 1999 when the cables, floorboards and side rails were replaced with galvanized steel.

The Mile High Swinging Bridge has an elevation of 5,280 feet and is 228-feet long. When you walk across this suspension bridge, you’ll observe 360-degree panoramic views of Grandfather Mountain.

The Mile High Swinging Bridge is also a fantastic place to take in the mountain’s changing fall scenery.

Mile High Swinging Bridge Admission

Guests can walk across the Mile High Swinging Bridge as many times as they want in a day when they purchase a ticket to Grandfather Mountain.

2022 Tickets to Grandfather Mountain are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors (age 60+), $10 for children (ages 4–12) and children under age 4 are free. Grandfather Mountain also offers AAA discounts for adults and children.

Mile High Swinging Bridge Hours

The Mile High Swinging Bridge is open seasonally when Grandfather Mountain is. Grandfather Mountain is open every day of the year, weather permitting, except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The Mountain also closes early on Christmas Eve and occasionally on other dates for staff training.

Beginning mid-March: Monday–Friday from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Beginning late March: daily, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Beginning late May: daily, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.

  • Currently through September 5: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Last entry at 5:30 p.m.)
  • September 6-30: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Last entry at 4:30 p.m.)
  • FALL (October 1-31)
    • Monday – Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Last entry at 4:30 p.m.)
    • Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Last entry at 5:30 p.m.)
