Scottish Highland Games come to North Carolina’s High Country
The High Country offers a lot when it comes to outdoor excitement and entertainment. Experience an event like no other during the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, July 11–14, 2019.
About the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games
The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games offers attendees a first-hand experience of Scottish Highland games and the gathering of the Scottish Clans. Celebrate Scottish traditions and culture, through dancing, piping, drumming, music and games, at MacRae Meadows on Grandfather Mountain.
The games are considered to be one of the grandest in the country due to the beautiful natural surroundings of Grandfather Mountain that are reminiscent of Scotland. Grandfather Mountain’s grassy meadow is filled with colorful tents and thousands of festival goers dressed in tartan plaids.
Funds raised by the games help to establish a scholarship to assist students from Avery County High School.
Grandfather Mountain Highland Games Events
The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games is four days filled with thrilling sport events as well as activities for festival goers. Some of the games include: a marathon, The Bear, Lochaber Trump, track and field, highland wrestling and more.
